June 11, 2025: Update from Broomfield County Officials

We recommend that residents engage directly with the State Wildfire Resiliency Code Board, particularly before next week's 6/18/25 deadline on the Model WUI Code.

Senate Bill 23-166 established a Wildfire Resiliency Code Board in the Division of Fire Prevention and Control to help enhance community safety and resiliency from wildfires through the adoption of codes and standards. Under this bill The 2025 Colorado Wildfire Resiliency Code has been finalized, and significantly impacts our neighborhood.

Large portions of our neighborhood have been reclassified as a Class 2 (Moderate) Intensity Fire Zone, a significant change from the previous classification of Class 1 (Low).

In doing so, putting us at risk of insurance hikes, property value impacts, and additional State Compliance Inspections and Enforcement.

It is currently unclear if these inspections will be retroactive, proactive, apply only to the changes being made, or extendable to unrelated areas that fall under the code at the whim of the inspectors.

What Can We do?

We have until June 18th to submit any written feedback to our state representatives at cdps_dfpc_wrcb@state.co.us

There will also be a public hearing on this for those interested.
